My Perspective
What I'm Thinking
Let Me Say This:
Just as it was in telecom, healthcare is on the cusp of its own transformation, in many ways but most importantly in the disaggregation of specialty practices from hospitals to retail outpatient clinics. Healthcare clinics are expected to generate more than $10B in the next 7 years.
I understand that in both healthcare and telecom, the retail presence is mission critical to the success of the business. Whether developing the patient-caregiver relationship, or the cell phone carrier experience to the customer, retail plays a key role in establishing loyalty to a brand or experience. However, retail presence is just the tip of the spear in relation to the massive infrastructure and sensitive data necessary for service delivery.
In many ways, healthcare today is where the cell phone industry was 15 plus years ago, with dozens of providers and hundreds of different companies vying for prime mover advantage. The biggest difference today is the technology that can be brought to bear in managing that service delivery efficiently and securely. It’s tougher to navigate all that today, but we are light years ahead of where we were.
